Well, he is overly ambitious and not good at communicating with kids, but he does want the best for them. He cares, in the only way he knows.

Perhaps it is less cruel to treat him badly than to give him false hope. Scar is not the type to spoil his cubs, he'd rather prepare them for life. It is a mother's job to love a child unconditionally and a father's to be reasonable. Unfortunately for Nuka, Zira is worse than Scar, so this family has too much harshness in it. But they cope somehow.
